It seems that after a certificate expiration ( www.identrust.com/support/announcements ) which concerns all macOS < 10.15 you are not allowed anymore to activate/deactivate licence key.

you can download this file , unzip it and run it (double-click on it).
at some point the Terminal will ask you for your password but does not prompt it while typing, validate with Enter

sorry about that, thanks Apple...

untested...
For older macOS, try:

downloading letsencrypt.org/certs/isrgrootx1.der
Open the Keychain Access app and dragging that file into the System folder of that app.
then find the ISRG Root X1 certificate in System and double click on it, open the Trust menu and change "Use System Defaults" to "Always Trust", then close that and enter your password to confirm the change (if prompted).

Hello. I have an important show in two days and it's impossible for me to update to 10.15...
I have tried the ISRG Root X1 certificate method with no luck...
Any other option please??

It looks like it worked!
Wow, thank you so much... for the quick response and the complex solution!
Do you think it can last for a while? I should update soon, but just to know if it should be ok now without this certificate around.

@asssccl
I'm glad you sorted out :)
may I ask you which is your macOS system?

as the certificate have expired, there should be no problem without it
