How do Effects work? was created by paulthom
Hello all
I have just starting trying to use D-Light. There are lots of things I am still trying to work out.

But what I mainly need to see working is FX - Effects. I have version 3.0.24 of D-Light

I have created an effect in the effect list and clicked on the FX Editor. I have created several steps.

In the FX Editor window I can set the channel levels and with Live check box selected they change value. But then I am stuck I cannot get any further. I think I need to get the active channels into the 'stock' little scrolling window. There is a double ended virtical arrow under this but clicking on this does not do anything. If I click on the green tick icon at the top of the screen, it creates something in this window and creates another step - not sure if that is the same as clicking 'New' button on the left of the window? all very confusing. I have no idea about setting time for a step or the delay between steps in an effect.

Does any one have a step by step guide to creating an FX (adding step, setting levels, setting timing).

thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
first, you should know that I'm working since a year now on the 4th version of D::Light and I strongly encourage you to use beta version which are stable enough.
the last one available looks very close to the final release...
(if you have a MacOSX computer, you'll need to use XQuartz 2.7.8)

I have created an effect in the effect list and clicked on the FX Editor. I have created several steps.

the way to create chaze (v4 denomination) is to create it in the chaze Listing, and to edit it.
you don't need to create several steps, just compose the light state and use 'R' (aka Record).
this will create a Chaze_Cue, this will also create a step and load the fresh Chaze_Cue inside.

the horizontal arrow is to load a specific chaze_Cue in the selected step.
the vertical arrow is to load a specific chaze_Cue in the channel pannel. Thus you can modify it or create a new chaze_Cue from the chaze_cue you've previously choose.

in order to set times and delays for steps, you'll want to use 'tt' shortcut (as in the main window) and 'dd' shortcut for the delay.
or you can type the desired time in the command line and double-clic on the appropriate column of the step you want

and as you've guessed, english is not my natural language... B)
