I don't know how i did it, but my
:light Beta version (4.0.0_b14) runs perfect under OS X Yosemite!
Perhaps you could try to update your XQuartz version. I'm using 2.7.7

I'm also on the 2.7.7 release. it starts but nothing happens nothing is displayed, the programe does not respond.
