Programing with control panel was created by sonolivier85
Hello

I have a question about the programing with the control part in the interface.

I also work a lot with other mayor lighting desk like (Hog, MA and Compulite)
I am used to a sort of standard way of accessing the control bord.

Like (channel 1 true 12 at 65%)
Would be channel 1 > 12 @ 65 enter

(Channel 16+26+36 at 80%)
Would be channel 16 + 26 + 36 @ enter

I am trying to understand the way you program channels.
Like (channel 1 true 12 at 65%) is in DLight programing
1 c 12 > 65 @

I find this a bit confusing, and not so logic.
also a lot of users i talk to in the Netherlands are not so happy about this and some don't use the program any more.
Are there more other people that think this way??

Is it something to think about to change in the future ??

What i also really miss is the cannel select button in the contol part,
with makes quick programming a lot easier.

Thanks and don't take i personal , i really like dlight.

Regards Vincent

Vincent,

D::Light as a major lighting desk is an honor ;-)

I am trying to understand the way you program channels.

D::Light is based on the RPN notation ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_Polish_notation ) herited from Avab lightdesk wich were very popular in France - and also the first one i studied.

i understand your concern and many northern people have asked for both choice, but RPN way is now deeply burried in D::Light code....

also RPN notation is faster. not in the example you provide, but for cue recording, group selection (among other things...)

Is it something to think about to change in the future ??

like i said, i doubt about it... but it surely is possible

What i also really miss is the cannel select button in the contol part,
with makes quick programming a lot easier.

you're right, i think i will remove the -All- button in favor of Channel selector.

Thanks and don't take i personal , i really like dlight.

it's never a problem of talking about the way we work!

Thank You Nico for you response.

I understand your motivation about RPN.

I just like to program a bit quicker and i don't think a wil get the RPN way soon.

If i program with mouse clicks this also works quick if you want channel 1 - 12 - 18 to select you keep the CRT button (osx) pressed.

But if i want to select channel 1 true 12 with shift button it don't work.

Is this a possibly for the future ???

Keep up the good work

Cheers Vincent

just a word here to tell the quicker method is not with mouse but with shortcuts

But if i want to select channel 1 true 12 with shift button it don't work.

the > button from the control pannel is the Thru command.
also you can drag a square around channels you want to select by holding Ctrl button and mouse click.

Is this a possibly for the future ???

it's hard to tell because things are coming under pressure for automatic projectors, color scroller and thing like that
