Dimmer Curve

I'm having trouble to customize the dimmer curve to let's say a non-dim dimmer curve.
How should i do that? I just seem to be able to choose from the standard curves.

Hi Mark,
you can only play with registered curve, BUT there's a way to load data to draw the curve (I didn't test that from a long time, so I don't know if it's still working, you'll tell me...).
in the Patch->Curve window, the folder icon let you import curve.
you can import .cvs file wich i a set of data separated by comma.
(attached an example file)
you can generate this file with whatever software you like, but be careful, there's no error check.

can you test with a device attached to see if loaded curve works (or not)?

Hello everyone,

I have tried this, and build a 'reverse lineair' (0=255, 1=254, ..., 254=1, 255=0) curve. [see attached]
The idea is to use this curve to reverse the movement (pan/tilt) of a mirror or moving head.
I could import the curve, but I will need to import it for each channel where I want to use this curve on.
Please note that I have not been able (yet) to test it live, to see if the head really turn the other way

@Nico, would it be possible to add this curve in DL as a standard ? Please ? Thanks !

nothing is attached...
please note that in the Patch window, if you select dimmer x thru y and hit curve, you'll work on all the selected dimmers.
so you can easily set a curve in one time for a pool of dimmer.

Yes, I know about the pool, but the problem is that these pan/tilt channels are all over the place.

I was just touching this topic because I need to have some non dim functionality. What I did:

1. change the curve to a non-standard curve. When you now select the map above you see that the dimmernumber has its own xml (i.e. when you change the curve of dimmer 3 to 'Static' there will be a "3-curve.xml" in the curves-map.).

When you open that xml (i had to unhide the folders in OSX via Terminal to do this) you see that Static has the name "curveType=5" which is logical because it's the sixth in the row (and one always start with 0).

What i did next is change everything greater than level id 127 to level 255 and I changed the curveType to 9 (this way it should be possible to get it in the dropdownmenu I thought). I saved it as "non dim.xml". I did not find a way to import it to the program yet so now it's just a solo file but one could use it as an importable curve anyway.

I tried to add the file but it didn't work. Trying again.

No not yet as I made the xml during a show week when I had no internet, so prior reading this topic. I thought "let's search on the forum" and saw this discussion so I thought I'd share it. I'll use the easier cvs file for more complicated dimmer curves next time, thanks.

p.s. is it possible to use csv to import a patch file too? Because I was thinking of making an iPhone app that makes it possible to patch during the time I'm on the stage filling in the light drawing of the venue. It's easier to make a csv than an xml.

I changed the curveType to 9 (this way it should be possible to get it in the dropdownmenu I thought).

please try 10 as index. it's the one DL use for imported curve.

once you've modified the xml file of your desired curve, use the 'Folder' Icon to import the .xml file.

p.s. is it possible to use csv to import a patch file too?

nope, but that's a good idea.
not for the 3.0.17 as I would to stop the beta phase to move to release one.

by the way, did you tried the latest layout I've made for DL (thanx to TouchOSC)?

No not yet as I made a few TouchOSC-programs myself. I'll try yours this week, thanks!

Actually I see yours is for 3.0.17 and I am currently working with 3.0.14 (I'm a slow adopter to avoid bugs live) so I'll try it on my backup machine in the near future.
